Wirex Crypto Card Overview

The Wirex Crypto Card is a Visa or Mastercard debit card linked to a Wirex account. You load fiat, stablecoins, or crypto into the app, and the card pulls from whichever balance you pick when you tap to pay. Under the hood there are actually two live products sharing the Wirex name. Classic Wirex still pays Cryptoback rewards in WXT tokens in a smaller set of markets. Wirex One is the newer version, with USD cashback, tiered rewards based on how much WPAY you hold, and a self custodial wallet setup. Which one you get, and what it pays out, depends on where you live, so check the app before you fund anything.

This card fits a specific kind of user. If you travel a lot and pay in different currencies, the advertised zero FX markup on card spend is the main draw. If you already hold BTC, ETH, USDC, or USDT and want to spend that directly at a grocery store or hotel without moving it to a bank first, this solves that gap. Remote workers paid in stablecoins, and small teams who want payroll or expense cards funded from crypto balances, are also a good match. It is not for you if you live in a country where Wirex is not supported, if you will not go through identity verification, or if you are chasing the headline 8 percent cashback rate without reading what it actually takes to unlock it (see below, it is not automatic).

Funding works through a few channels: local bank transfer where supported, a card top up in some regions, or a straight crypto deposit to the address the app shows for that asset and network. Once money is in, you link a balance, fiat or crypto, to the card, and that balance is what gets converted at checkout. Spending is standard card rails after that: tap to pay, online checkout, ATM withdrawal up to a monthly allowance before a withdrawal fee kicks in. A virtual card is usually issued instantly after verification, so you can start spending same day, while a physical plastic card takes several business days to arrive.

What sets this card apart from a normal crypto exchange card is the multi currency balance system: you can hold EUR, GBP, USD, and crypto side by side in one account, and pick which one funds a purchase, instead of the app forcing a conversion at the worst possible moment. The rewards structure is also unusual. Classic's published cashback bands run from a small percentage on the free plan up toward 8 percent, but that top rate needs a paid Elite plan and a large WXT token lock, not just regular spending. Wirex One pays in USD instead of tokens, with the rate rising as your portfolio size and WPAY holdings grow. Either way, gambling, crypto purchases, and ATM withdrawals typically do not earn anything, and monthly caps can limit how much reward you actually collect even if the earn rate looks uncapped.

One thing worth sitting with: the "up to 8 percent" number on the marketing page is real, but almost nobody hits it without locking a meaningful amount of tokens first. Read the tier requirements in the app before you assume the top rate applies to you.

Wirex Crypto Card Key features

  • Virtual card

You get this in the app right after verification, and you can add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay where those wallets work. It is ready to spend online the same day, before any plastic card shows up.

  • Physical plastic card

Wirex issues this as a Visa or Mastercard depending on your region, and you can use it in stores and at ATMs. Delivery usually takes several business days, and some regions charge for postage even when the card itself is free.

  • Metal Visa Signature card

This is the top physical tier, and Wirex markets it with a dedicated manager and its highest cashback band. Order fees and delivery rules show up in the app and differ by country, so check before you order.

  • Multi-currency balances

You can hold EUR, GBP, USD and other currencies alongside crypto in one account. Linking the right fiat balance before you pay means the app does not need to convert crypto at the till.

  • Cashback in WXT or USD

Classic Wirex pays Cryptoback in WXT, with published bands from about 0.5 percent on the Standard plan up to 8 percent, though that top rate needs a paid Elite plan and a large WXT lock. Wirex One pays cashback in USD instead, and independent testers report rates from 0.5 percent up to 8 percent depending on your portfolio size and WPAY holdings. Gambling, crypto buys and ATM cash usually earn nothing, and monthly redemption caps can apply.

  • Subscription rebates

Wirex One gives back 50 percent in USD on eligible subscriptions like Uber One, ChatGPT and Claude, paid out after the month ends. The rebate is capped at the standard plan price and varies by tier.

  • ATM allowance

The commonly published rule gives you fee-free withdrawals up to 200 GBP, EUR or SGD (400 AUD) a month, then about 2 percent after that. Higher Wirex One tiers advertise bigger free ATM allowances.

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay

In supported regions you can add your Wirex card to your phone's wallet and pay without carrying plastic.

  • Yield on stablecoins and crypto

Classic X Accounts and Wirex One savings advertise AER or APY on selected assets, and the rates are tiered and can change. This is a product term, not a bank deposit guarantee, so read the terms before you commit funds.

  • In-app crypto exchange

You can swap between a large list of assets inside the app. Spreads and pair fees show up at quote time, and they sit separate from the card's advertised 0 percent FX fee on purchases.

  • Spending controls

You can freeze the card, choose which balance funds a purchase, or cancel and reissue a virtual card without waiting on the post. It gives you a way to test limits or lock things down fast if something looks wrong.

Wirex Crypto Card Fees

  • Physical card delivery Virtual and standard plastic issuance is usually free, but physical delivery can cost a few pounds or euros domestically and more for express or international post.
  • Classic subscription plans Classic X Tras runs Standard free, Premium around 9.99 euros a month, and Elite around 29.99 euros a month, with cheaper rates if you pay annually.
  • FX and conversion spread The card advertises a 0 percent FX fee, but converting crypto to your spend currency carries a spread that reviews put around 0.5 percent to 2 percent depending on the pair.
  • ATM withdrawals Cash withdrawals are fee free up to about 200 GBP, EUR, or SGD (400 AUD) a month, then roughly 2 percent applies, plus whatever the ATM owner adds on top.
  • SWIFT withdrawal fee Withdrawing fiat by SWIFT often carries a flat fee around 15 dollars or the euro equivalent, while SEPA and Faster Payments are commonly free.

Wirex Crypto Card Supported networks

  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Stellar
  • Polygon
  • Solana
  • Avalanche
  • XRP Ledger
  • Cardano
  • Wirex Pay Chain

How to use Wirex Crypto Card

  1. Create your account

Download the Wirex or Wirex One app for your region and sign up with a real email and phone number.

  2. Verify your identity

Submit a government ID and a selfie when the app asks. Some regions also want proof of address before you can move funds.

  3. Check card availability

Look for the card tile inside the app for your country before you fund anything. Availability, rewards, and custody rules differ by region.

  4. Order your card

Get a virtual card right away if the app offers one. Order the physical card only after you see the delivery cost and timeline for your country.

  5. Fund and link a balance

Top up with a local bank transfer, a card top up, or a crypto deposit to the address shown for that asset and network. Link the fiat or stablecoin balance you want the card to spend from.

  6. Make a test payment

Add the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay if supported, then run a small purchase to check the conversion quote and any cashback credit before you spend larger amounts.

Wirex Crypto Card Review

Pros

  • Wirex is a principal member of both Visa and Mastercard, so it can issue cards directly instead of leaning on a sponsor bank.
  • The card advertises 0 percent FX fee on purchases, and independent testers have posted receipts showing charges converted at that rate.
  • Wirex One pays cashback in USD instead of a token, with testers reporting bands that climb from 0.5 percent up to 8 percent as your tier rises.
  • You can hold EUR, GBP, USD and several crypto balances at once and pick which one pays for a purchase.
  • A virtual card is issued in the app right after identity checks clear, so you can start spending online the same day.
  • Eligible subscriptions such as Uber One, ChatGPT and Claude pay back 50 percent in USD, capped at the plan price.
  • ATM withdrawals are fee free up to a monthly allowance (around 200 GBP, EUR or SGD, or 400 AUD) before the roughly 2 percent charge applies.
  • You can freeze the card or unlink a balance instantly in the app, no call to support needed.

Cons

  • The advertised 8 percent cashback needs an Elite plan and a large WXT or WPAY lock, so most users land closer to 0.5 to 2 percent.
  • Cryptoback pays out in WXT, a token whose price you don't control, so your reward can shrink before you spend it.
  • Classic crypto features shut down in the EEA and Australia on 30 June 2026, forcing a migration to Wirex One.
  • The card is blocked in the US, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Russia.
  • SWIFT withdrawals carry a flat fee around 15 dollars, and conversion spreads of 0.5 to 2 percent apply on top of the 0 percent FX headline.
  • Trustpilot reviews sit in the mid 2 out of 5 range, with users reporting account freezes, extra KYC checks, and slow support.
  • Monthly cashback redemption caps apply even on Wirex One's top tier, so unused rewards can pile up against a ceiling.
  • Wirex One's self custodial wallet model shifts key management onto you, and support during compliance holds can still lock funds.

Our verdict

Wirex is fine for a specific person, not a default pick. If you spend across currencies and want 0% FX on card purchases, the card earns its keep, and multi currency balances save you a bank hop. But the 8% cashback headline is a trap. You need Elite plus a big WXT lock, or a top Wirex One tier with heavy WPAY holdings, to see it. Most people land closer to 1-2% real cashback, and swap spreads of 0.5-2% quietly eat into that. I'd carry it as a travel card, not a rewards engine. What would change my mind: a published flat spread instead of live quotes, and an 8% tier that does not need token exposure to reach.

Wirex funding

  • Founded by Wirex Limited was founded in London in 2014 by Pavel Matveev, Dmitry Lazarichev, and Georgy Sokolov; the raw data identifies Matveev as Group CEO and says the early brand name was E Coin.
  • Crowdcube angel - Oct 2020 The round raised $4.35 million on 5 October 2020; the raw data mentions Crowdcube participants but does not identify a lead investor.
  • Later-stage VC - Feb 2022 The round raised $15 million on 14 February 2022; the raw data does not identify the lead investor.

Is Wirex Crypto Card safe & legit?

Wirex Limited was founded in London in 2014 by Pavel Matveev, Dmitry Lazarichev, and Georgy Sokolov, and it holds principal membership with both Visa and Mastercard, which is rare for a crypto card issuer and puts it a step above thin white-label operations. Your balance is custodial on Classic Wirex, while the newer Wirex One runs a self-custodial wallet model, so check which app you are on before you fund anything. I see no scam flags here, but there are real frictions worth knowing: Trustpilot scores sit in the mid 2s out of 5, users report account freezes and slow support during KYC reviews, and Classic crypto features are being shut down in the EEA and Australia from 30 June 2026.

Stablecoin banking is moving too fast for six-month launch cycles.
Stablecoin neobanks, card programmes and embedded finance products are competing in a market where new use cases can emerge quickly and user expectations change just as fast. Getting to market sooner has become part of the product strategy.
But speed only matters if the infrastructure underneath can support it properly.
At Wirex BaaS, the average path from an idea to a live product is 44 days.
A lot still has to happen inside those 44 days:
→ Product fit and programme scope are defined
→ Compliance and onboarding requirements are aligned
→ Commercial terms are finalized and the contract is signed
→ Accounts, cards and payment infrastructure are configured
→ Integrations move through sandbox testing and iteration
→ Payment flows and settlement are tested end to end
→ Final production checks are completed before launch
The timeline is shorter, but the requirements are still there.
That is increasingly what stablecoin infrastructure needs to deliver. Companies building stablecoin banking products need to move at the pace of the market while knowing the compliance, payments and operational layers underneath are ready to move with them.

A token price that only ever climbs is not always a sign of demand.
Honeypot tokens are designed to let anyone buy in freely, while the underlying code quietly blocks selling, or adds a sell tax so high that cashing out makes no sense. Because early buyers can't exit either, the price keeps rising on paper with no real trading behind it.
Eventually the developer sells their own holdings, the only sale the contract ever allowed, and the token's value collapses to nothing for everyone else still holding it.
Before buying into any new token, ask yourself:
→ Have you checked the contract, or run it through a honeypot checker?
→ Does trading activity actually go both ways, not just buying?
→ Is there a high or hidden sell tax buried in the contract?
→ Is the hype backed by anything beyond social media buzz?
A token that only ever goes up should raise questions, not confidence. Always do your own research before buying in.

Belgrade gave us plenty to take home this week!
We spent Wednesday and Thursday at @ethbelgrade, part of @belgradebw, and it turned into two packed days of conversations, new connections and a lot of interest in what’s being built around stablecoin banking.
Our booth stayed busy throughout, the merch barely made it past day one, and we got to speak with builders, founders and teams working across the wider digital asset space.
But the week went well beyond the conference floor:
→ We kicked off Wednesday morning with a Crypto Outdoor Workout, hosted together with @Tangem before the conference got underway. Great to have @AleksaFlamingo, @MrUncleBro, @RealFinOfficial, @CryptoSavingExp, @Web3Spud and others join us for the session and start the day on a different note.
→ That evening, we joined @DeFiSaver and @ambire for Beers & DeFi, bringing another part of the community together away from the conference.
→ Thursday finished with Proof of Rakija, one of @belgradebw traditions and probably the most Serbian way possible to close out two days at @ethbelgrade.
→ Our co-founder & CCO, Georgy Sokolov, also sat down with the @stableschool team to record a podcast during the week. More on that soon.
→ And this morning, we wrapped everything up over coffee with @PulsarMoneyApp, catching up with familiar faces, continuing a few conversations from the conference and ending a very full week on a good note.
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, spoke with the team, joined one of the events or simply came over to say hello.
And a special thanks to the @ethbelgrade team for putting together a great conference and for all the support throughout the week, especially @0xdevelopera, @tanjaweb3 and @Lejla_Muratcaus.
Belgrade, see you next year. 👋

A sponsored ad and pages of five-star reviews are not proof that a platform is legitimate.
Fake trading platforms are built to look exactly like real brokers or exchanges, complete with regulatory badges and a dashboard designed to look authentic and modern. Many come with a personal account manager who calls regularly, building a relationship that feels genuine while quietly encouraging bigger deposits.
The moment you try to withdraw is the moment it is too late, and your funds are trapped. Requests get delayed, ignored, or blocked entirely, because the platform was only ever built to take deposits, never to pay them out.
Before trusting any trading platform, ask yourself:
→ Is the platform properly regulated, and can you verify it independently?
→ Did the relationship start with an unsolicited call or message?
→ Are the returns shown suspiciously steady day after day?
→ Have you tested a small withdrawal before depositing more?
A platform that only ever takes deposits and never pays out was never a trading platform to begin with.

Money has become global, but much of the infrastructure moving it is still shaped by local markets, currencies and operating models.
We believe stablecoins are a natural fit for a world where people and businesses increasingly operate across borders, giving financial services a more global foundation from the start.
That belief is already reflected in the stablecoin banking and payment infrastructure we have built at Wirex, connecting stablecoins with the financial products people use every day.
Dmitry Lazarichev, Co-Founder of Wirex, explains why the way money moves needs to catch up with the way the world operates.
