Nexo Crypto Card Overview

The Nexo Card is a Mastercard linked to your existing Nexo account. It is not a prepaid card you top up separately. Instead, it pulls money from crypto and stablecoin balances you already hold on Nexo, or it borrows against them through a crypto backed credit line. You are not buying a new wallet. You are adding a spending layer on top of an account you already use.

This card fits a narrow type of user. You keep assets on Nexo already. You want to pay at shops and pull cash from ATMs without opening a second bank account, and without selling your coins every time you buy coffee. If you live outside the eligible European markets, if you skip identity checks, or if you don't like a company holding your collateral, this card is not for you. Nexo runs a separate product for Argentina with its own rules, and US residents cannot get this card at all.

Funding and spending work through two switchable modes, both under one card number. Debit Mode spends directly from your Flexible Savings or FiatX balances (EURx, GBPx, USDx). Nexo converts the asset at the moment you pay, and whatever you haven't spent yet can keep earning daily interest, with marketing figures citing up to 13% a year depending on the asset and your Loyalty tier. Credit Mode works differently. Instead of selling your coins, Nexo opens a loan against them. You owe Nexo, not a bank, and there's no bank style credit check involved. Rates start from about 1.9% a year for top tier users, but drawing on this mode means watching your loan to value ratio, because a market drop can trigger liquidation just like any other crypto backed loan.

Getting the virtual card going is cheap: about $50 in account value unlocks it. A physical card is a different story. Nexo's own pages ask for over $5,000 in assets plus Gold Loyalty status before you can order one, and several reviewers note that physical issuance gets paused from time to time, so check your live app status rather than trust marketing pages.

What actually separates this card from most crypto debit cards is the mode switch itself. Most competitors force you to sell crypto to spend it. Here, Credit Mode lets you spend without triggering a sale, which matters if you don't want a taxable event or don't want to give up a position you're holding long term. Cashback only kicks in through Credit Mode, gated behind a $5,000 portfolio and paid in NEXO tokens or BTC, scaling by tier (Platinum: 2% NEXO or 0.5% BTC, down to Base: 0.5% NEXO or 0.1% BTC). That's a real perk if you already hold a chunky balance. It's close to useless if you're carrying $200 and expecting rewards on a sandwich purchase.

There's no monthly or annual card fee, but don't read that as free. A debit conversion swap fee around 0.75% applies when Nexo converts crypto into your card's fiat currency, and FX charges stack on top: 0.2% on weekdays and 0.7% on weekends inside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, rising to 2% and 2.5% for spending outside that zone. ATM withdrawals come with a tiered free allowance (from around €200/£180 at Base up to €2,000/£1,800 at Platinum), and once you're past that, a 2% fee with a minimum of €1.99 or £1.99 applies, plus whatever the ATM operator adds on its own.

I'd treat this card as a good fit if you're a European Nexo user who wants to spend without liquidating, and a poor fit if you were hoping for a simple, low-KYC prepaid card with global reach. The dual mode is genuinely useful once you understand the mechanics. It's also easy to lose money on FX and conversion fees if you spend outside Europe or on weekends without checking the live rate in the app first.

Nexo Crypto Card Key features

  • Dual spend mode

One card number switches between Debit Mode, which spends assets you already hold, and Credit Mode, which borrows against those holdings instead of selling them. You pick the mode in the app before you tap.

  • Crypto cashback in Credit Mode

Cashback only applies in Credit Mode and needs a portfolio above $5,000. Nexo's own tier table pays 0.5% to 2% in NEXO tokens, or 0.1% to 0.5% in BTC, depending on Loyalty tier. UK users have reportedly been told standard cashback may not apply, so check the live app.

  • Daily interest on idle balances

Assets sitting unspent in Debit Mode can earn daily interest, advertised up to 13% a year depending on the asset and Loyalty tier. Interest stops on whatever portion you spend or lock as collateral.

  • Credit line instead of a sale

Credit Mode draws a loan against your holdings rather than selling them at checkout. Nexo advertises rates from about 1.9% a year for top Loyalty tiers, rising at lower tiers and higher loan-to-value.

  • Mastercard acceptance

The card runs on the Mastercard network, so it works at any merchant or ATM that takes Mastercard, both online and in person.

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay

You can add the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay for tap payments, which matters given that physical card issuance has reportedly been paused at times.

  • No recurring card fee

Nexo does not charge a monthly, annual, or inactivity fee on the card itself. Conversion, FX, ATM overage, and credit interest still apply separately.

  • ATM allowance by tier

Free ATM withdrawals scale by Loyalty tier, from up to 200 euros or 180 pounds at Base tier to up to 2,000 euros or 1,800 pounds at Platinum. Past that allowance, Nexo charges 2%, with a minimum of 1.99 euros or pounds, and the ATM operator can add its own surcharge.

  • In app spending controls

You can freeze the card, view your PIN, set spending limits, and restrict transaction types directly in the app.

  • Asset spend priority

In Debit Mode you can drag and drop which coins or stablecoins get spent first, so a payment does not accidentally eat into a coin you meant to hold.

  • Private client limits

Accounts around $100,000 can unlock higher spend limits and a relationship manager. This is aimed at larger holders, not the typical user.

  • Wide deposit network support

Balances can be funded through many chains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Solana, and others. Sending on the wrong network can lock funds, so always confirm the address and network on the Receive screen.

Nexo Crypto Card Fees

  • Debit conversion fee Independent reviews put the swap fee at around 0.75% when Nexo converts crypto into the card's base currency, such as EURx or GBPx.
  • FX spread On top of conversion, FX runs 0.2% on weekdays and 0.7% on weekends in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, rising to 2% on weekdays and 2.5% on weekends everywhere else.
  • ATM withdrawals Once your Loyalty tier's free ATM allowance (from €200/£180 at Base up to €2,000/£1,800 at Platinum) is used up, withdrawals cost 2% with a minimum of €1.99 or £1.99, plus any surcharge the ATM owner adds.
  • Credit Mode interest Borrowing against your collateral in Credit Mode starts at about 1.9% per year for top Loyalty tiers, with higher rates at lower tiers or higher loan-to-value.
  • Card subscription fee Nexo charges no monthly, annual, or inactivity fee for holding the card itself.

How to use Nexo Crypto Card

  1. Open your Nexo account

Sign up with an email and phone number. This account is where your card, savings, and credit line will all live.

  2. Verify your identity

Upload an accepted European ID document and complete the liveness check. The card is not available to US persons or to anyone outside the eligible European markets.

  3. Fund your account

Deposit crypto, stablecoins, or a supported fiat route until your balance reaches at least $50. That $50 is the minimum needed to activate a virtual card.

  4. Request the virtual card

Go to the Cards section in the app and request the virtual Nexo Card. It should issue right away once your balance rule is met.

  5. Choose Debit or Credit Mode

Pick Debit Mode to spend your held assets directly, or Credit Mode to borrow against your collateral instead of selling it. You can switch between the two later without changing your card number.

  6. Make your first payment

Add the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay, or use the card details online, and run a small test purchase. Check the transaction history afterward to confirm which mode, FX rate, and cashback (if any) applied.

  • ?

    2 months using @Nexo card

    my honest take:

    • onboarding was smooth
    • Apple Pay works exactly as it should
    • payments have been reliable
    • first merchant authorization is underrated
    • Debit + Credit modes give you actual flexibility

    what I'd improve:

    • make some card benefits easier to unlock
    • add better spending analytics and monthly reports
    • make transaction details more transparent

after 2 months, it's become one of the cards i actually use

Nexo Crypto Card Review

Pros

  • Credit Mode lets you spend against your crypto without selling it, so you avoid triggering a taxable sale at checkout.
  • Debit Mode balances keep earning daily interest until the moment you actually spend them.
  • There is no monthly, annual, or inactivity fee on the card itself.
  • Weekday FX inside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland is just 0.2%, well below the 2% rate charged outside Europe.
  • The card works with Apple Pay and Google Pay, so a delayed or paused physical card still lets you tap to pay.
  • Higher Loyalty tiers pay cashback up to 2% in NEXO or 0.5% in BTC on Credit Mode spend.
  • You can drag and drop which coins spend first in Debit Mode, so you don't accidentally sell a long-term holding.
  • The app lets you freeze the card, view your PIN, and set spending limits without contacting support.

Cons

  • Physical cards need over $5,000 in assets and Gold Loyalty status, so most users are stuck with the virtual card.
  • Nexo custodies your collateral, so a platform freeze or liquidation can lock you out of your own funds.
  • FX fees jump to 2% on weekdays and 2.5% on weekends outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
  • Cashback only applies in Credit Mode with a portfolio above $5,000, so smaller holders earn nothing extra.
  • US persons cannot get this card at all, and UK users may lose standard cashback under some support notes.
  • The debit conversion fee runs around 0.75% on top of FX, which quietly eats into any rewards.
  • Physical card issuance has been paused before, so the app is the only way to check if shipping actually works.
  • Nexo settled with US regulators for about $45 million and pulled out of the US retail market.

Our verdict

Nexo's card is worth carrying only if you already keep real money on Nexo. The 2% cashback headline hides a 0.75% conversion fee plus FX on top. Weekend and non-Europe spending adds up to 2.5% more, which eats the reward fast. Add custodial risk: your funds sit with Nexo, not in your own wallet. I'd change my mind if physical card issuance stopped stalling and cashback applied below $5,000 in holdings. Until then, this card fits an existing Nexo user, not someone shopping for a simple crypto debit card.

Nexo funding

  • Founded by Nexo was founded by co-founders Antoni Trenchev, Kosta Kantchev, and Georgi Shulev, and its lending product line grew out of the European consumer lender Credissimo.
  • Token sale - Mar-Apr 2018 The token sale raised $52.5 million from 6 March to 1 April 2018 at $0.10 per NEXO; the raw data names Arrington Capital as a backer, but does not identify lead investors.

Is Nexo Crypto Card safe & legit?

Nexo Card is issued by Nexo Capital Inc. (founded 2018 by Antoni Trenchev, Kosta Kantchev, and Georgi Shulev), with card issuance handled through Lithuania-licensed DiPocket UAB. Your balance is custodial, not self-custody: Nexo holds the crypto, and spending pulls from that balance or from a crypto-backed credit line against it, so you never control the private keys. The main red flag isn't fraud, it's platform risk and past regulatory trouble: Nexo paid roughly $45 million to settle US state actions over its earn product and exited the US retail market, so treat the card as legit but not risk-free, and never confuse "custodial" with "insured like a bank deposit."

Crypto had its best stretch in months last week, but it wasn't a straight line up.
Bitcoin held its ground, Ether pushed toward a level lost in January, while XRP and Solana pulled back from their own runs.
Still, that's more optimism than the summer earned.
    2 more in this thread
A few signals held up underneath.
Ether's 50-day moving average crossed above its 200-day, a setup that's preceded strong runs before.
XRP whales added their largest position since February.
Solana's validators voted through a permanent cut to future token issuance.
Strip away the daily noise and two things stand out: Bitcoin is behaving less like a pure risk asset, and Solana just voted in real scarcity.
The thesis breaks if this week's labor data revives September hike odds. That's the variable that decides whether this holds.
