Lava XYZ Card Overview
Lava Card is a secured Visa card from lava.xyz. You are not borrowing on credit here. You fund a USD balance first, then spend it, and Lava pays part of that spend back in bitcoin instead of points or miles. The card went live on 3 June 2026 and works anywhere Visa is accepted, which Lava puts at more than 150 million merchants across over 150 countries.
The problem it solves is simple. If you hold bitcoin and need dollars for rent or groceries, selling triggers a tax event and breaks your position. Lava skips that. You keep your bitcoin, fund the card's USD balance through bank transfer, direct deposit, or stablecoin (USDC, USDT, PYUSD), and spend from there. If you'd rather not touch your stack at all, you can also draw dollars against it through Lava's Bitcoin Line of Credit (BLOC) and spend that instead. Either way, the money in your Lava balance is what you can spend. Nothing more.
Rewards work on a tier system, not a flat rate. US based users earn 3 percent back in bitcoin on most eligible purchases, non US users earn 1 percent, and spend at partner merchants (Amazon, Apple, and Netflix at launch, with AI tools like OpenAI and Anthropic added later) earns 5 percent worldwide. Refunds and reversed charges don't earn anything, and some merchant categories can be excluded, so the "up to 5 percent" line on the marketing page only applies to a specific list of partners, not your weekly shop.
What actually sets this card apart from a normal debit or prepaid card is the fee structure. There's no annual fee, and international spend runs on Visa's own exchange rate with no added FX markup from Lava. That matters if you travel or pay vendors in other currencies, since a lot of cards quietly add 1 to 2 percent on top of the network rate. Lava's own materials also mention fee free ATM withdrawals across the US, though some third party card databases still list that as unconfirmed, so I'd check the live terms in the app before relying on it.
This card suits someone who already holds bitcoin or stablecoins and wants to spend without cashing out, especially US residents chasing the 3 percent rate or shoppers who lean on the 5 percent partner list. It also fits people already using Lava for BLOC borrowing, since spend, borrowing, and saving sit in one account. It's a weaker fit if you want a real credit line, need guaranteed physical card issuance in your country, or you're not comfortable holding your dollar balance with a custodial fintech rather than a self custody wallet.
One thing to flag before funding a large amount: Lava moved from an earlier self custody loan design to a custodial model, and that shift drew criticism from other people in the bitcoin industry over licensing and transparency. That doesn't mean the card is unsafe, but it does mean you're trusting a company's balance sheet and terms, not a smart contract. Fund it with money you're fine keeping on a fintech platform, and read the current card terms before moving anything large, since fee schedules and reward rules have changed at least once since launch.
Lava XYZ Card Key features
-
Bitcoin back on spend
Eligible purchases pay bitcoin instead of points. US based users get 3 percent on everyday spend and 5 percent at partner merchants like Amazon and Netflix. Users outside the US get 1 percent on everyday spend.
-
Zero annual fee
Lava Card carries no yearly charge. There is also no minimum spend requirement to keep the card active.
-
No FX markup
Foreign purchases run at Visa's official exchange rate. Lava does not add its own currency conversion fee on top.
-
Secured spending, not credit
You only spend dollars already sitting in your Lava balance. Lava says the card is not an unsecured credit line.
-
Several ways to fund the balance
Load USD by bank transfer, direct deposit, stablecoin deposit, or by drawing dollars from Lava's Bitcoin Line of Credit (BLOC). All of it lands in one spendable USD balance.
-
Stablecoin deposits across ten networks
As of July 2026, Lava accepts USDC, USDT, and PYUSD on Solana, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Celo, Optimism, Polygon, Stellar, and Tempo. Pick the exact asset and network shown in the app before you send funds.
-
Wide Visa acceptance
The card works at more than 150 million Visa merchants in over 150 countries, plus Apple Pay or Google Pay where the issuer supports it in your region.
-
App based controls
Freeze the card, set spend limits, and track activity from the Lava app. Lava also advertises 24/7 US based human support instead of chatbot only help.
-
BLOC borrowing option
Users who hold bitcoin can borrow dollars against it through BLOC and spend those dollars on the card. Public reviews cite a combined rate near 7 percent a year on the revolving line, separate from any card fee.
Lava XYZ Card Fees
-
Annual fee Lava Card charges no annual fee.
-
FX spread Lava adds no markup on foreign currency spend, so you get the Visa official exchange rate.
-
Stablecoin conversion Supported stablecoins (USDC, USDT, PYUSD) convert to USD at 1 to 1 with no conversion haircut, per Lava's own claim.
-
ATM withdrawals Lava's launch post claims no fee for ATM cash withdrawals in all 50 US states, though some third party trackers still list this as unconfirmed, so check the live fee schedule in your account.
-
BLOC borrowing cost If you fund card spend by borrowing against bitcoin through BLOC, public reviews cite a combined rate near 7 percent a year on the revolving line, and fixed term loans have been listed between 5 and 11.5 percent APR depending on term.

I am using lava, gluon which are free and PayFun,UUPAY cost only 1$ and lava card offers 0% fx fee overall it's better choice

@Plasma and @coca_card are good, @lava_xyz and @okx are underrated, especially @lava_xyz.
View on X ↗ -
@okx is actually pretty good with 0 FX for all currencies. @lava_xyz is also top tier, another one with truly 0 FX. For non-USD spenders FX is pretty important as it can wipe out even decent cashback rate.

Lava XYZ Card Review
Pros
- Rewards are paid in bitcoin instead of points, at 5 percent with partner merchants and 3 percent on other US spend.
- There is no annual fee and no Lava markup on foreign currency, since it uses Visa's official exchange rate.
- You can fund the spending balance with USDC, USDT, or PYUSD across ten networks, or with a bank transfer or direct deposit.
- The card works at any Visa merchant, across more than 150 million locations in over 150 countries.
- Because the card only spends dollars you already funded, there's no unsecured debt or interest to worry about on everyday purchases.
- Users on X report genuinely zero FX fees, which matters a lot if you spend in currencies other than USD.
- You can also draw from Lava's Bitcoin Line of Credit to fund the balance without selling your bitcoin.
- Lava backs the card with over 30 million dollars in disclosed equity from investors like Founders Fund and Khosla Ventures, plus a larger funding package for BLOC.
Cons
- Non US spenders earn only 1 percent bitcoin back, far below the headline 5 percent rate.
- You are trusting Lava's custody of your bitcoin and dollars, not a smart contract you control.
- Lava switched from a self custody loan design to a custodial model, which drew public criticism over licensing and transparency.
- BLOC borrowing carries its own cost, near 7 percent a year on the revolving line plus a capital charge on peak balance.
- At least one user reported bitcoin rewards stay locked until a high satoshi threshold, which hurts small spenders.
- ATM fee free status is claimed by Lava but still marked unconfirmed by some third party databases.
- One user reports no cashback credit option and weak support, which contradicts Lava's own marketing.
- Card issuance can be refused after KYC in some countries, so approval is not guaranteed.
Our verdict
Lava Card fits people who already hold bitcoin and need dollars for daily life. Real cashback is 3 percent in the US and 1 percent abroad. The 5 percent headline rate only hits partner merchants like Amazon or Apple. The zero FX fee is real and worth something if you spend overseas. I would trust it more once Lava clears up its custody and licensing terms.

Is Lava XYZ Card safe & legit?
Lava Card comes from Lava (lava.xyz), a US bitcoin finance company founded by Shehzan Maredia and backed by named investors like Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and Caffeinated Capital, with card issuance run through Rain's regulated stack. Your balance is custodial, not self custody: you fund it with bank transfers, stablecoins, or a BLOC bitcoin loan, and Lava holds those dollars for you. The one real red flag is that Lava switched from an earlier self custody loan design to this custodial model, a move some other bitcoin founders publicly criticized, and independent reviews cite that shift (plus a gap in audit coverage) as the reason it scores around 7 out of 10 rather than higher.
