Avvio Card Overview
Avvio Card is a Visa crypto debit card within the Avvio money app. It suits freelancers paid across borders and stablecoin holders who want to spend at ordinary merchants. Users hold crypto in a self custody wallet, while card spending and bank transfers depend on partner services.
You can fund your balance by bank transfer using USD or EUR account details, or deposit USDC or USDT on supported networks such as Ethereum and Solana. You then spend through the linked Visa card, with Apple Pay support. Avvio handles transfers between supported chains in the background. The main draw is access to named bank account details alongside stablecoin spending in one app.
Avvio advertises 0% FX markup on card purchases, but you may still pay a conversion spread or partner fees. Monthly card charges and ATM fees are not clearly published in the supplied sources. No cashback program is listed, so this is a better fit for cross-border payments than card rewards. Users can earn variable yield on eligible idle balances, but that is separate from cashback. Check card availability in your country and the full fees in the app before routing your pay into Avvio.
Avvio Card Key features
-
Visa card spending
You can spend at more than 150 million Visa merchants and add the card to Apple Pay. Card access depends on your region and partner identity checks.
-
Zero advertised FX
Avvio advertises a 0% FX markup on card spending. You may still pay a conversion spread or partner fees, so check the rate in the app.
-
Self custody wallet
You control wallet keys through Turnkey signing, and Avvio says you can export them. You are responsible for wallet recovery, while card and fiat transactions remain subject to partner controls.
-
Named bank accounts
You can receive payments through dedicated USD or EUR account details, with GBP available in some cases. Account details can be in your own name, which is useful for client invoices or payroll.
-
Unified stablecoin balance
You can hold supported stablecoins in one dollar-style balance for transfers and card spending. Avvio supports USDC and USDT across several networks.
-
Automatic deposit bridging
You can deposit USDC or USDT through supported networks without a separate manual bridge step. Avvio's partners handle the bridging, and you still pay applicable network or partner fees.
-
Variable balance yield
Avvio advertises up to about 7% APY on idle USD or EUR balances, but returns vary and are not guaranteed. You earn yield rather than card cashback, and Avvio balances are not FDIC insured.
-
Local bank payouts
You can withdraw through local payment rails, including Pix for BRL and SPEI for MXN. Availability and fees depend on the payout route, so confirm the cost in the app.
-
Savings goals
You can set aside money in goal buckets and receive transaction notifications. You can also use Face ID or a fingerprint to access the wallet.

Our verdict
I'd carry Avvio Card for cross-border freelance pay if I wanted self custody. Avvio advertises 0% FX markup, with no cashback. You may pay around 0.15% service fees and 0.25% EUR conversion fees. Add spreads and partner charges; Avvio hasn't clearly published ATM or monthly fees. I'd drop it if total costs exceeded my current card's.

Is Avvio Card safe & legit?
Avvio appears legitimate: Anzo Labs, Inc., led by co-founder and CEO Jaswanth, runs the app, while Lead Bank issues the Visa card through Bridge.xyz (owned by Stripe); Avvio's backers are not named in the supplied data.
Avvio says the wallet balance is self-custody, so you control the keys and risk losing funds if you lose access and recovery.
Avvio balances have no FDIC insurance, and partners still control card access; reported sending problems and slow support warrant caution.

Anyone who's been in bitcoin knows how significant @lightspark's infra is. They've been building Grid quietly, and in a couple of years a big chunk of global payments will settle over it.
@tryavvio is proud to be an early partner, and we're launching Avvio for Business on Grid.

Ask @PeterMcCormack or @isabellasg3 whether the money in their @Wise accounts was really theirs.
You can technically own it while someone else holds the off switch. That's why Kate points people to @tryavvio. Freedom money was supposed to fix this.- 2 replies

Our founders have been bitcoiners for 8+ years. In that time we've watched people get debanked for donations, protests, political opinions, or just touching crypto. It always comes down to the same thing: if someone else holds your money, they decide whether you keep it.
That's why we built Avvio self custodial from day one. We never hold your funds. Doesn't matter if we're at 1000 users or 10 million, freezing your money isn't something we're able to do.- 7 replies

It’s sad watching great fintechs like @Wise @Revolut that were built to disrupt banks slowly become the very thing they set out to destroy.
Also one of reasons, I’m very bullish on all the new era of fintechs like @altitude @Onesafeio and obviously @tryavvio- 2 replies
