Solflare Card Overview

Solflare Card was a Mastercard debit card linked to a Solflare Solana wallet. It spent USDC on Solana directly from the user's delegated wallet. The merchant received local fiat, while the wallet paid the matching USDC amount. The card had no separate prepaid balance or custodial card account.

The card suited adults in the EEA and UK who held USDC on Solana and wanted to spend it at Mastercard merchants. It did not support direct spending of SOL, Bitcoin, Ether, Tron USDT, or other tokens. KYC was required for card use.

Users funded the card by buying, swapping, or transferring USDC on Solana into the connected wallet. They did not need a card top-up. Each approved tap, swipe, online payment, or ATM transaction triggered a Solana USDC debit. The first program listed no monthly or annual fee and free virtual card issuance. A commonly cited fee for non-USD payments was 1%, but current replacement-program fees and limits are not published. No fixed cashback rate is published.

The card stopped working on 28 July 2026 after its issuing partner, Kulipa, wound down. Solflare said a replacement program was planned, with Apple Pay, Google Pay, higher limits, and cashback. The replacement was not confirmed live in the supplied sources. Check the official Solflare app and help center before applying or relying on the card.

The main difference was self-custody spending. USDC stayed in the user's Solflare wallet instead of moving into a prepaid card balance. That design reduced the need for a custodial top-up, but it also limited the product to Solana USDC and depended on a working card issuer.

I could not verify current, real app screenshots from public sources here, so I have not presented an unverified image as genuine. Use dated images from the official Solflare app listing or official card page, and check that they match the current issuer program.

Solflare Card Key features

  • Current card status

Virtual and physical cards stopped working on 28 July 2026 after issuer Kulipa wound down. Solflare said a replacement program was in progress, but independent reviews had not confirmed its launch.

  • Self-custody spending

The card spends USDC from a Solflare wallet that you control. The issuer does not hold a prepaid balance for you.

  • USDC on Solana

The card supports USDC on Solana only. You must swap or bridge other assets into Solana USDC before spending them.

  • No prepaid balance

You do not load a separate card account. The available amount matches the USDC in the wallet delegated to the card.

  • Mastercard payments

The card uses the Mastercard network for online and in-store payments, plus ATM use. Merchants receive local fiat while the wallet pays USDC.

  • On-chain debit

An approved payment triggers a Solana transaction that deducts the matching USDC from the delegated wallet. The raw data puts network gas at roughly $0.01 or less per debit.

  • Virtual card first

The first program issued a virtual Mastercard after KYC, with a physical card available later. Old card numbers will not carry over to a replacement program.

  • Google Pay support

The first live program supported Google Pay where the option was available. Solflare listed Apple Pay and Google Pay as day-one items for its replacement program.

  • Payment controls

The app supports biometric or PIN access, instant freeze and unfreeze controls, and push alerts for spending. Online payments can require 3D Secure verification.

  • EEA and UK access

People aged 18 or older who live in the EEA or UK could apply through the Solflare mobile app during the first program. Other countries were reviewed case by case.

  • KYC required

Card applicants must complete identity checks because the Mastercard program and its licensed issuer must meet anti-money laundering rules. The Solflare wallet itself does not require KYC.

  • Rewards program

The first program used raffle-style points rather than a fixed cashback rate. Solflare promised cashback for the replacement program, but it had not published the rate.

Solflare Card Fees

  • Annual card fee The first Kulipa program charged $0 for annual or monthly card fees.
  • Issuance fee The first program listed virtual card issuance as free.
  • Top-up fee Solflare charged $0 for top-ups because the card had no prepaid balance to fund.
  • FX fee The first program commonly charged 1% on non-USD charges, with Mastercard's interbank rate used for the currency conversion.
  • ATM withdrawals Solflare's FAQ said Solflare charged no ATM fee, but third-party reviews listed about 2% after a free allowance, and the ATM owner could charge its own fee.

Solflare Card Supported networks

  • Solana

How to use Solflare Card

  1. Check card availability

Open the official Solflare app or help center and confirm that the replacement card program is live. Old Kulipa cards stopped working on 28 July 2026, so do not use old card details.

  2. Create your wallet

Download the official Solflare mobile app and create or import a Solana wallet. If you create a wallet, write the recovery phrase offline and never share it.

  3. Apply and verify

Open the portfolio, tap the card icon, and start the application if the card is available in your region. Complete KYC with a government ID. Residents of the EEA and UK who are 18 or older can apply, while other countries receive case-by-case review.

  4. Fund with USDC

Buy, swap, or transfer USDC on Solana into the wallet delegated to the card. The card spends USDC from that wallet, and it does not use a separate prepaid balance.

  5. Make your first payment

After approval, open the virtual card details in the app and add it to Google Pay if the option is available in your region. Tap or swipe at a Mastercard merchant, or enter the virtual card details online and complete 3D Secure if asked.

Solflare Card Review

Pros

  • USDC stays in your delegated Solflare wallet instead of an issuer-held prepaid balance.
  • The card spends Solana USDC directly, so you do not need a separate card top-up.
  • Mastercard acceptance lets merchants receive local fiat while your wallet pays in USDC.
  • The app includes card freeze controls and spending alerts.
  • Solana transactions settle each approved debit on chain.
  • The first program charged no annual or monthly card fee.

Cons

  • The card stopped working on 28 July 2026 after issuer Kulipa wound down.
  • The replacement card was not confirmed live by mid-August 2026.
  • The card spends USDC on Solana only, so other assets need a swap or bridge first.
  • The first program charged about 1% on non-USD purchases.
  • The first rewards program used raffle-style points, and the replacement cashback rate was not published.
  • Applications were limited mainly to residents of the EEA and UK.

Our verdict

Solflare Card is not worth carrying today; cards stopped working on 28 July 2026. It suits eligible UK and EEA users holding USDC on Solana after relaunch. The old baseline charged roughly 1% foreign exchange fees, plus tiny Solana gas. Any USDC purchase spread remains unpublished, and cashback has no confirmed rate.

Solflare funding

  • Founded by Solflare was founded by Vidor Gencel and Filip Dragoslavić, who also built Solana Beach and later developed Solflare as a consumer Solana wallet.
  • Early stage VC - Jul 2021 PitchBook lists about $3.4 million raised in an early stage VC event dated 6 July 2021; it does not identify lead investors, but names CMS Holdings, Delphi Digital / Delphi Ventures, and Dominance Ventures among 11 investors.
