Backpack Crypto Card Overview
The Backpack Crypto Card is a Mastercard Platinum debit card linked to a dedicated balance inside Backpack Exchange. It suits existing Backpack users who want to spend exchange funds without a separate prepaid app. Access remains in closed private beta, with invites tied to BP token staking and a qualifying VIP tier in the Participant Program. Users must complete identity verification.
You move USD or supported stablecoin funds into the card balance through an instant internal transfer, then pay at merchants that accept Mastercard. Backpack holds the source funds on the exchange; you do not spend directly from a personal crypto wallet. You can move unused card funds back to your trading balance through the same app.
The main draw is variable yield on idle card funds alongside everyday spending. Backpack has not published a guaranteed yield rate or a cashback schedule. Yield is separate from cashback. The full card fee table is also unpublished, so do not assume free ATM withdrawals or zero foreign exchange markup. For existing users with an invite, the card could save some hassle. Anyone who needs clear costs before ordering should wait for published terms.

You can move USD or supported stablecoin funds from your Backpack Exchange balances into a dedicated card balance immediately. You do not need a bank transfer or another on-chain transaction for this move.

Variable balance yield
You can earn variable yield on idle card funds, but Backpack has not published a guaranteed rate. This is balance yield, and Backpack has not published a cashback schedule.

Virtual and physical cards
During private beta, users received a virtual card first and a physical card later. You can add the virtual card to a supported phone wallet before the physical card arrives.

Mobile wallet payments
Beta users reported payments through Apple Pay and Google Pay. They also reported support for WeChat Pay and Alipay.

Same app control
You can fund or freeze the card in the Backpack app. You can also review purchases and move unused card funds back to your trading balance.

Foreign currency payments
You can make purchases in currencies other than USD. Backpack has not published an official FX markup, so do not assume every conversion is free.

How to use Backpack Crypto Card

Create your account
Sign up at backpack.exchange and complete identity verification.

Stake BP for access
Stake BP through the Participant Program to reach a VIP tier that qualifies for card access. The card is in closed private beta, so wait for an invite before you continue.

Open the card section
Open the Card section in the Backpack app once you receive an invite. Check the issuer name in your account before you move funds.

Fund your card balance
Move USD or supported stablecoin funds from your main exchange balance into the card balance, an instant internal transfer. Keep only what you plan to spend there, since Backpack holds these funds in exchange custody.

Add your virtual card
Add your virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Testers have also reported support for WeChat Pay and Alipay.

Make your first payment
Pay at a merchant that accepts Mastercard, online with your virtual card or in person through your phone wallet. Use the Backpack app to review the payment afterward.

Update: I have now used the @Backpack card at 16 different venues while earning 6.60% on my balance. At a concert, restaurants, 1 food delivery app order, and to pay rent. FX fees are extremely low and I am trying to get it to decline... Unsuccessfully

Every Crypto Card nerd should try the Backpack Card. My tests keep putting it among the cheapest cards to pay with. It is a Mastercard Platinum debit by @Backpack, BIN 5323 9271, issued by Bano Pty Ltd out of Australia under Bolt Financial Group. The card balance earns 2.58% APY on its own.

Our verdict
I'd carry Backpack Crypto Card only as an existing user with beta access. BP staking ties up capital, and Backpack holds your funds. Backpack hasn't published full fees or spreads. Count any network and trading costs; yield isn't cashback. I'd recommend it more widely after Backpack publishes competitive spreads and complete fees.
