Cypher Card Key features

• Program closed

  Cypher stopped new cards and loads on 8 July 2026, then ended spending on 8 August 2026. The company closed the app and reward claims on 6 September 2026.

• User controlled wallet

  Users kept their private keys and controlled their crypto until they loaded the card. After a load, users held a custodial prepaid card balance, separate from their wallet assets.

• Visa prepaid payments

  Users spent loaded dollars at Visa merchants, with payments settled in USD. They could spend only their prepaid balance and had no revolving credit line.

• Multi chain loads

  Cypher advertised support for more than 500 tokens across 15 to 25 networks. Users could load directly from a connected wallet without a separate third party bridge in many cases.

• Virtual card access

  Users received a virtual card in the app after identity checks. They could pay online or add it to Apple Pay and Google Pay for tap payments.

• Physical card options

  Standard users could order a PVC card for a $50 shipping fee. Premium users paid $199 per year and received a metal card with free shipping.

• Standard load fees

  Standard users paid no annual fee, with historical load fees of 0.5% for USDC and about 1% for other tokens. For low liquidity tokens, users paid 1% to 3%, plus network gas.

• Premium load fees

  Premium users paid no Cypher load fee for USDC on eight specified networks, though they still paid network gas. They paid 0.5% for other token loads, and Cypher still charged for USDC loads on BNB Chain.

• Foreign currency fees

  Historical comparison sites listed non-USD spending fees of 1.75% for Standard and 0.75% for Premium. Older help text and some marketing gave different figures, so these were not consistent across sources.

• CYPR token rewards

  Users earned CYPR tokens on purchases, with Premium users earning twice the Standard base rate. The cash value changed with the token price, so users did not receive a fixed cashback percentage.

• Card spending controls

  Users could freeze their card and change spending limits in the app. They could also block card use in selected countries.

• Premium fraud cover

  Cypher advertised up to $300 in chargeback-style fraud cover for Premium users. The company did not list the same cover for Standard users.

Cypher Card Fees

• Annual fees Before the program closed, Standard users paid no annual fee, while Premium users paid $199 yearly with a metal card and free shipping included.
• Card fees Standard users paid $50 for physical PVC card shipping, and users paid $10 for each extra virtual card.
• Top-up fees Standard users paid 0.5% for USDC loads and about 1% for other tokens (1% to 3% for low liquidity tokens); Premium users paid 0% for USDC on eight eligible chains, excluding BNB Chain, and 0.5% for other tokens, with network gas extra.
• Foreign exchange fees Under the historical comparison schedule, Standard users paid 1.75% on non-USD spending and Premium users paid 0.75%.
• ATM withdrawals Standard users paid 3% plus ATM operator fees, while Premium users paid 2%.

How to use Cypher Card

   Check the program status

   Cypher stopped issuing and loading cards on 8 July 2026, and ended spending at 00:00 UTC on 8 August 2026. You cannot complete the historical signup and payment steps below now.

2. 2

   Set up your wallet

   While the program was live, you installed the Cypher mobile app or opened the dApp. You then created a wallet or connected an existing wallet through WalletConnect or an email wallet.

3. 3

   Verify your identity

   You completed KYC with a government ID and the required address checks. After approval, you received a virtual Visa card number in the app.

4. 4

   Prepare your virtual card

   You used the virtual card details for online purchases. For tap payments, you added the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay.

5. 5

   Load your card balance

   You selected a supported token on a supported chain in your connected wallet, checked the load fee and network gas, then confirmed the load. Your crypto stayed under your control until the load moved value into a custodial prepaid USD balance.

6. 6

   Make your first payment

   You waited for the prepaid USD balance to update, then paid at a Visa merchant with your virtual card online or your device wallet at checkout. You could spend only the amount you had loaded, within your plan limits.

  Thai user who treated Cypher as a daily card (locals called it the dog card). On last spend day they posted that Apple Pay had already removed the Cypher card. Earlier thread says they completed the official 3/3 offboarding steps.

• Founded by Kuberan (Kube) Marimuthu, Cypher's founder and CEO, previously worked in risk and payments at Coinbase and had earlier card experience tied to Amazon.
• Seed - Aug 2022 Dealroom lists a $125,000 seed investment from Y Combinator in August 2022, but the raw data does not identify a lead investor or confirm whether this was separate from the later announced seed round.
• Seed - Jan 2023 Cypher announced a $4.3 million seed round on 19 January 2023, led by Y Combinator, with The Block reporting that the equity round closed in June 2022.
