Karma Card Overview

Karma Card is a Visa crypto debit card inside the Karma app. It suits people who already hold crypto and want to pay in shops or online from the same balance they use for trades. You keep that balance in a self custodial wallet, rather than hand custody of your coins to Karma.

You fund the app with supported crypto or bank transfers. After KYC, you can get named EUR, USD and GBP account details; incoming fiat converts into digital dollars in your wallet. You then spend from that balance at Visa merchants. The main draw is convenience: you can trade across supported chains and pay with the card without a separate card top-up.

Karma charges 0.5% per card purchase, with no monthly subscription. For non-USD purchases, Karma charges 1% FX, and Visa may add an international network fee listed at around $0.30. Holding $2,500 worth of $KARMA halves the service fee; holding $10,000 removes it. Those discounts apply to the service fee, so foreign currency costs still matter. Bank funding costs about 1%, while withdrawals to fiat cost about 0.5%, with transfer fees possible.

You earn Karma Points on card spending and swaps. A fixed cashback rate is not published, so don't treat points as guaranteed cash back. Check country eligibility and current fees in the app before you fund it. Karma makes most sense if you want to trade and spend from one crypto balance.

Karma Card Key features

  • Visa card spending

You can pay at Visa merchants online and in shops with the same stablecoin balance you use in the Karma app. Karma charges a 0.5% service fee per purchase, with no monthly subscription.

  • Self custody wallet

You keep your keys on your device with passkey security and can export them. Karma does not hold your coins, and you do not get bank deposit insurance.

  • Holder fee discounts

Karma halves the card service fee when you hold $2,500 in $KARMA and cuts it to zero at $10,000 held. You take on token price risk to qualify for these discounts.

  • Card spend points

You earn Karma Points on card purchases and swaps, with tier-based cashback benefits. The supplied details do not include a published cashback rate.

  • Mobile wallet payments

You can add the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay and pay with your phone.

  • Instant payment alerts

You get instant push alerts when a merchant requests payment or you receive a refund. You also get alerts for declined payments.

  • Named bank accounts

After KYC, you can get a EUR IBAN and local account details for USD and GBP in your name. Through regulated partners, you can send fiat into your wallet and receive digital dollars.

  • Shared app balance

You can trade across Solana, Base, Ethereum and Robinhood Chain, then spend with the card from the same app balance. You do not need to choose a source chain for each trade.

  • Non-USD payment fees

Karma charges 1% FX on non-USD purchases, separate from the card service fee. Visa may also charge an international network fee listed at around $0.30.

Karma Card Review

Pros

  • You pay no monthly subscription fee.
  • You can spend at Visa merchants from the same app balance you use for trades.
  • You keep your wallet keys on your device and can export them anytime.
  • You earn Karma Points on card purchases, though no fixed cashback rate is published.
  • Holding $2,500 in $KARMA cuts the 0.5% card service fee to 0.25%, while holding $10,000 removes that fee.
  • You can add the virtual card to Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Cons

  • Karma charges a 0.5% service fee per purchase at the base tier.
  • You pay 1% FX on non-USD purchases, and Visa may add an international network fee.
  • You must hold $10,000 worth of $KARMA to remove the service fee, exposing you to token price risk.
  • Karma does not publish a fixed cashback rate in the supplied details.
  • Karma provides no deposit insurance for your wallet balance.
  • You must complete KYC for full card access.
  • You are responsible for access to your self custody wallet.

Our verdict

I'd carry Karma Card for existing crypto spending if I wanted self custody. Base spending costs 0.5%, plus 1% FX on non-USD purchases. Visa may add around $0.30; fiat funding costs about 1% before conversion spreads. Karma lists bank FX spreads around 0.50%; card conversion spreads aren't specified here. I'd feel better once Karma publishes all-in conversion quotes and firm cashback rates.

Karma Card has a named UK operator, Karma Fintech LTD, founded by Amrix (@amrix_j), and says Third National issues its Visa cards through Rain; no named VC backers are disclosed in the supplied data. Karma says your balance is self-custodial, with exportable keys on your device, so the company does not hold your coins.
